Our story

Who's behind Iron Elk Farm

Meet your farmers

Welcome to Iron Elk Farm - we're so excited to get to know you. We're the Rothbauers, and we raise Finnsheep and chickens in the dry climate of Townsend, Montana. When we're not busy growing the animals and the soil around us, we're usually working with other local farmers, shepherds, and producers to keep local dollars local.

We stumbled across wool pellets after a bit of overwhelm post-shearing day. We had wool, but didn't have the passion for yarn that most wool growers do. Wool pellets appeal to us as a way to use wool that's historically been wasted, and to give new life to the land. Plus, the water retention of wool means it's really helpful in our garden and the gardens our friends and neighbors.

We love walks with our dogs, snuggles with the sheep, and driving our old truck around.

Come find us at your local farmer's market, or reach out to ask about how we can help your garden grow.
